FIRST GENERATION PATHWAY

CREATING A SUSTAINABLE CULTURE OF UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH FOR FIRST GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENTS AT UC

We are also pleased to announce an inaugural cohort of first-generation college students who have embarked on a Pathway to Undergraduate Research. The research experience includes stipend support to aid in student participation in research. The cohort comprises 8 first-generation college students who participated in a series of training that prepared them to make immediate impact in a research group focused on measurement science. The workshops included a laboratory safety, laboratory etiquette and best practices, and research 101 workshop. The group also comprises 3 graduate student and 1 undergraduate student mentors. The kick-off meeting was the beginning of establishing a new community and culture to support first generation students in chemistry. The cohort meets monthly to share their experiences in research and participate in professional development workshops.

WE ARE RECRUITING OUR FOURTH COHORT FOR FALL 2024. IF INTERESTED, PLEASE EMAIL RYAN.WHITE@UC.EDU
