Ryan completed his undergraduate degree in chemistry (2003) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill while performing research under the guidance of Prof. Royce Murray. Ryan’s doctoral work was done at the University of Utah with the mentorship of Prof. Henry White with studies focused on the development and use of nanoscale electrodes and nanopores for various analytical purposes. Ryan continued his studies as a NIH postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Santa Barbara with Prof. Kevin Plaxco working on electrochemical aptamer-based sensors. Ryan joined the University of Maryland Baltimore County in the fall of 2011, establishing a research program in the development of new bioanalytical tools with high spatiotemporal resolution to tackle problems in biology and biomedicine. Ryan has recently joined the Department of Chemistry and Department of Electrical Engineering and Computing Systems at the University of Cincinnati as an Ohio Eminent Scholar.
